Director of Bands
Craig Byers began his adventure with the Lakeshore Titan Band in June of 2017. He received his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in December of 2007 and is currently pursuing his master's degree from William Carey University, also in Music Education. While attending Southeastern, Mr. Byers performed as a percussionist in the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and “Spirit of the Southland” Marching Band, in which he led as drum major for two consecutive years. It was during his time student teaching that he discovered his passion for the marching arts, writing drill and bringing music to life.
Prior to LHS, Mr. Byers served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Central Lafourche High School in Raceland, Louisiana (2013-2017) and at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, LA (2009-2013). He also worked in the Tangipahoa Parish School System (2008-2009) as an elementary general music teacher. Mr. Byers has worked with several high school bands throughout Louisiana and Mississippi and has adjudicated in the visual and general effect captions at local competitions. Mr. Byers was a guest conductor of the Fontainebleau High School Jazz Ensemble One at the 2010 Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Under his instruction, the Central Lafourche Winds group were the Winter Guard International 2015 Silver Medalists and the 2017 Gold Medalists.
His professional affiliations include the Louisiana Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the Percussive Arts Society. He is also a proud endorser of Mapex and Majestic Percussion. Craig Byers currently serves as the Executive Director of the Louisiana-Mississippi Color Guard and Percussion Circuit, a non-profit organization that promotes the marching arts and provides performance opportunities through winter guard, indoor percussion, and winds. He is also the owner and drill designer of Distinguished Drill and Designs, LLC.
